October 2nd Hunt

To kick off this weekly blog about hunts in our area, I would like to tell you about the hunt that me and my brother Rustin shared this weekend. On Saturday October second we took a total of three deer with a bow. Two of the deer were Does and one was a seven point buck. The wind was blowing from the North North East and it was about 62 degrees out. Rustin had a stand positioned over a corn field that had just been cut, we had recently seen a lot of deer movement through that area. The deer had been getting up out of their bedding area and going to feed on the corn field. My stand was positioned about four hundred yards away off of a trail coming out of a bedding area. I was surrounded by thick pines with the wind at my back. My first doe was shot at fifteen yards at 5:00 pm. An hour and a half later Rustin took the seven point buck. The buck that Rustin shot came by me first after I shot the doe, I filmed the buck with my phone and then sent that video to Rustin. As he got done watching the video, he looked up and saw that very same buck. He then shot that buck and thirty minutes later shot a doe that walked past. It was a great experience to get to shoot three deer in one hunt with my brother.

  1. This would be a good Verizon commercial. Verizon with great coverage, even in the boondocks! All night Britt had been texting me and giving me updates on the deer that were moving my way, but they never seemed to pass me. I began to wonder if they were winding me. Later that evening around 7 p.m. Britt sent me a video of a seven point buck that had just passed him and he swore that it was going to stay on thee trail that lead straight to me. Sure enough about five minutes later this buck walked 30 yards in front of my stand. As he was walking with his head down making a line for the corn field I pulled down on him and had to grunt to make him stop, he looked directly at me and i shot him.

  7. Heard rumor of a mountain lion sighting south of Olathe. might want to check it out. A mountain lion kill would really boost your big game hunting status. a true worthy advisory for the Brothers Dowd.
